The need for globally comparable, city level data to drive economic development has become ever more critical. As cities increasingly take up positions on the global stage to drive investment and prosperity for their citizens, high calibre and globally comparable city data becomes essential in supporting city leaders to promote their city’s attractiveness. City leaders need data that is globally standardized to enable city to city comparisons. This presentation will focus on the work of the World Council on City Data and ISO 37120 – the first international standard for city indicators and a growing Canadian and global network of cities devoted to building a culture of data for economic development.
