Brenda McDermott is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary and serves as Director of Student Accessibility Services. Her research and professional interests focus on disability studies, inclusive post-secondary education, accessibility, universal design for learning, and the use of emerging technologies to support student success. With extensive experience supporting students with disabilities, Brenda collaborates with students, educators, and institutional leaders to reduce barriers and create more equitable learning environments. She has a particular interest in the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to support learners with learning disabilities, ADHD, and other accessibility needs, while ensuring the development of essential academic and self-advocacy skills. An experienced presenter, researcher, and accessibility advocate, Brenda is passionate about translating research and innovation into practical strategies that empower students, educators, and families. Her work focuses on fostering independence, inclusive learning, and meaningful access to education for all learners.
